Back to School Blues

I'm going back to school! I never finished my Bachelor's degree because I got stuck deciding what road I wanted to take and then I decided to go on a mission and work full time until I left. Then I got married, moved to New York and had 2 kids!! Life happens fast!!! A few weeks ago I saw an obituary of a man we knew in New Jersey. He died of cancer after 7 months and left behind a wife and 5 kids. This sort of freaked me out. What if Andy died? I could work as a Pharmacy Technician but that really doesn't pay great. I could work in Accounting, but without a degree I think it would be difficult for me to find a good paying job. Of course, my solution was to just get a couple million dollar life insurance policy on Andy!! The kids and I would do well with that! AND, I bet it would be cheaper than me finishing my degree. Andy, however, is into education and wasn't too hip on my idea. Bummer! SOOOOOO, I signed up for an independent study course through BYU that will eventually transfer to UVU. My plan is to take as many independent study classes through BYU as I can (they are cheaper) and then when the kids are both in school full time (assuming we are living in Utah) I will go back to day school at UVU and finish with a Business Management degree. That's the plan but it remains to be seen what exactly will happen!!
I received my first class packet in the mail yesterday and it was enormous and very daunting. I guess Andy and I will be studying together at night!! And at the end, we's gunna be the most edumacated couple who's ever been! Word!!

You know, I've never wanted to hug your husband before. Anyway good for you and Andy good job helping her to go for something that will be personally rewarding and probably more valuable in the long run. (Of course what kind of an opinion would you expect from a man that spent 11 years in school after high school.) Congratulations and whatever path you take I'm sure you will do great. :)

Good luck! And have lots of fun. I'm still taking classes and enjoying learning more each semester. But make sure you have a specific goal in mind so you don't waste precious time.

Wow, props to you! It's goning to be a long, hard road...but definitely worth it. Scott is going to be going back to school this upcoming year to get a degree in guidance counseling. I'm totally NOT excited, but I know it's for the best. I do have one stipulation...no more kids until he's done!

Hey, Kristi. I don't know if you'll remember me, but I'm Matt Richards's little sister Anna (the one that was always hanging out at Andy and Matt's apartment my freshman year). My husband is the sous chef at a new restaurant in Provo that I think you and Andy would like. Let me know if or when you want to go, and my husband can give you the VIP treatment. The place is called Spark Restaurant Lounge. You can email me sometime if you guys are interested (happymadison123@yahoo.com). Also, I've been reading your blog for a while now since there is a link on Genni's blog, and you're kids are so freakin' cute!

Good for you! One of my favorite things about having my degree is the peace of mind it gives me. Of course, if anything ever happened to Peter I think I'd end up going back to school anyway.
